Ty Warner Buying More Hotels?
Beanie Babies mogul Ty Warner of Montecito is quietly
seeking to buy the Four Seasons Biltmore and San Ysidro Ranch, Santa Barbara's
two premier hotel properties, according to reliable sources.
Biltmore officials confirmed
Thursday that Ty Warner is interested in buying the hotel and is doing "due
diligence" at the property. That's the common pre-purchase procedure in
commercial real estate involving looking into such things as the hotel's
financial health, occupancy rate, physical plant and other matters. More...

U.S. consumers spent $2.8 billion online in January,
mostly on airline tickets, computer hardware and books, according to a survey.
"Shopping online is here to stay, as evidenced by the fact that in January
online consumers spent more than half of what was spent online during the entire
holiday season," David Cooperstein, director of Forrester's Online retail

Women Arrested in Pre-Sale Beanie Fraud
A woman who left a trail of disappointed Beanie Baby
buyers in 12 states was arrested Sunday and charged with using the Internet to
commit theft, police said. Linda
Armstrong, 39, allegedly sold hard-to-get Beanie Babies through the eBay and
Yahoo! Auction sites and collected payments without sending the promised items.
Armstrong, who used the name "Momandguy"
on eBay and Yahoo, specialized in "pre-selling" the popular tiny plush
toys before their official release date, promising to deliver them later.
Many of the victims were so
anxious to get their Beanies they ignored the negative ratings posted by other
buyers about "Momandguy" on the Internet auction sites. More...
Amercians Buy Beanie Babies, Trade Stocks at Work
A new study shows Americans spent an average of 21 hours
online at work last month - more than twice the amount they did at home - partly
because their employers offered faster connections.
Most of the top 10 Web sites accessed from the office clearly had nothing to do
with work, according to the survey by Nielsen NetRatings.
By far, the most popular site both at home and at
work was eBay, an auction site offering everything from Beanie Babies to
limousines. From
their office computers, employees were more likely to shop, plan vacations and
browse news sites. Investment firms E*Trade, Charles Schwab and Fidelity
Investments showed up on the list of most popular at-work sites - evidence that
many employees are trading online during office hours. More...

BargainBeanies Look to Expand
Owners of BargainBeanies.com,
resellers of collectible bean bag toys, have decided to jump into the domain
name game.
Since their business went online two years ago, Ruth Perryman, owner of
BargainBeanies.com, has been trying to determine new ways to expand their
business. She has parked several domain names in an effort to evolve
BargainBeanies.com into a larger organization. This has led to several very
creative domain names such as OnlineSavers.com, PricingGuides.com,
web2riches.com and DealerLounge.com. However, the popularity of collectible bean
bag toys has left very little time to expand their business. In fact, so popular
that her husband has recently put his 17 year career on hold to help out. More...
Beanie Kids
Beanie Kids marks the company's first venture into
bean bag characters with children's likenesses. Roughly the size of Beanie
Babies, the series currently consists of five girls and four boys with large
bodies, short arms and legs, twistable hair similar to that of troll dolls, and
varying eye, hair and skin color to represent different ethnicities.
The characters are named Precious, Cutie, Angel, Ginger, Tumbles, Curly, Rascal,
Boomer and Chipper. They are said to take eight times longer to manufacture than
Beanie Babies because of the level of detail, including irises. They will retail
for $8 to $9 each. According to magazine staff attending the Atlanta show,
the Kids will come with hologram hang tags and tush tags that are embroidered on
each character. Retailers were able to order them in limited quantities of six
each. Ty representatives told some retailers that they expect to begin shipping
the products this month. More...
Ty Donates $2 Million in Beanies
Ty distributed more than 300,000 Beanie Babies and Pillow Pals through
Children's Miracle Network of 170 non-profit children's hospitals to brighten
the lives of sick and injured children. Ty's kind gift, valued at more
than $2 million, will find even greater value in the hearts of hospitalized
children throughout the year. "We want our donations to serve as many
children as possible," said a Ty spokesperson. "For this reason
Children's Miracle Network was an obvious choice to receive our product and
we're thrilled to be able to help so many kids in children's hospitals
nationwide." More...
Toys "R" Us Website Sued
A Toys "R" Us Inc. customer has sued the toy

while knowing it would not be able to ship toys in time for the holiday, a

Ohio Company Sentenced for Selling Recalled Toys!
The Mazel Company, of Solon, Ohio, was sentenced to pay a
criminal penalty of $40,000 after pleading guilty to four counts of selling

because they contained small parts, which posed a choking hazard to young
children. However, following the recall, the importer resold the toys to Mazel.
Mazel sold approximately 800 Teddy Precious Collectible Bears to small retail

More Beanies on the Way?
The people have spoken, and to no one's surprise they
want more Beanie Babies.
Ninety-one percent of the consumers who took the trouble to surf into Ty's Web

Skeptics had suspected that owner Ty Warner planned all along to continue
Beanies in some form. Warner has, after all, expanded his factories and has

Burger King Slapped With Class-Action Lawsuit!
Silber-Pearlman today announced a Dallas woman has filed a

School Officials Issue Safety Warning
State school bus safety officials and the National Highway
Traffic Safety Administration today warned parents that popular "Pokemon,"
"Furby," "Beanie Babies" and other small toys that can be
attached to backpacks or clothing pose a potential safety hazard to children
getting off school buses.
Michael Martin of the School Bus Information Council said, ``Fortunately there
have been no deaths or injuries cause by these toys snagging, so we have an
opportunity to forewarn parents and school officials. But since 1991 six
children have been killed when clothing, book bags, backpacks or other loose
items snagged on a school bus handrail or door component-they were dragged to
their deaths or run over when the bus pulled away. At least 22 others have been
injured in similar incidents.'' More...

Collectors to Vote on Beanie's Fate
Beginning at 6 a.m. on Dec. 31, Beanie Baby collectors can
cast ballots on the official Ty Web site, for 50 cents.
Toy analysts and collectors disagree on whether Warner ever intended to retire
the Beanies. Many believe he planned to continue Beanies in some form --
Warner has expanded his factories and has several trademark applications pending
for names such as E Babies, Bean E Buddy and Bean E Baby -- but they say it
wasn't clear how different they would be from the current beanies. But
they do agree on at least one thing: Warner is a marketing genius. More...

notified the affected customers by e-mail, explaining they could cancel their
orders for a refund or use 100 Geoffrey dollars, named for the company's giraffe

Toy Stores That Sell Food?
You want a burger and fries with those toys?
The fast-food heavyweights have been jostling for customers this holiday season
with toy giveaways designed to lure families into their restaurants more often.
Burger King capitalized on this year's hottest kids' property, Pokemon, by
packing its own Pokemon trading cards and trinkets in red-and-white Poke Ball
containers distributed with its Kids Meals. "The fast-food
restaurants have become toy stores that also sell food," said Bob Kahn, an
executive for the marketing consultant FutureBrand in New York. More...
Mary Beth Predicts New Ty Products
Mary Beth Sobolewski, editor in chief of Mary Beth's Bean Bag World Monthly,
believes that the December 24 "global newsflash" will involve
the birth of a new line of collectibles similar to Beanie Babies.
Mary Beth speculates that the company plans to replace its retired Beanie Baby
bonanza with new plush toys that may be smaller than Beanies for easier store
display and made of the same patented fabric used on Ty's larger Beanie Buddies
to counteract counterfeiting. She also envisions hang tags equipped with
holograms similar to those used on Beanies' tush tags to further
counterfeit-proof the line. More...

Ebay Files Suit Against Bidder's Edge
Bidder's Edge (www.biddersedge.com)
announced that eBay, has filed suit to seek to block Bidder's Edge from
searching and displaying eBay's auction listings on the Bidder's Edge Web site.
The suit seeks to stop Bidder's Edge's search engine, which enables users to
quickly and easily access millions of items listed at leading person-to-person
and merchant online auction sites, from accessing the eBay Web site. Among
several objections, eBay claims that Bidder's Edge violates eBay's copyrights
and intellectual property. Bidder's Edge believes eBay's arguments are not
justified, especially since the information eBay is trying to protect is not its
own, but rather is data generated by eBay's sellers. More...

Ty Really Halting Beanies for Good
New Year's Eve will be the last day of production for
Beanie Babies, the maker of the popular stuffed critters says. Ty Inc.
broke the news with a cryptic announcement on its Web site Thursday, saying only
that production will stop Dec. 31 and warehouses will be cleared of
surplus. Many collectors and fans had been expecting a new line of the
toys from the company.
Ty Inc. spokeswoman Anne Nickels said she "had no idea (why)" the
cuddly toys will be discontinued, adding that the decision to stop production
was made by the firm's owner Ty Warner. "We're just as much in the
dark here as everybody else," she said.

Mary Beth Comments on "The End" of Beanies
While retirement for current Beanie Babies® is imminent
-- and the end of an era fast approaching -- America's love affair with these
cozy characters is far from over. Mary Beth agrees. "Retirement news, and
uncertainty about forthcoming plans of Ty Inc., have caused unfounded worries in
the marketplace," she stated. Mary Beth went on to say, "I
strongly believe that a brand new product line will be launched -- featuring
counterfeit proof fabrics and holographic hang tags -- which will attract a new
breed of collectors and encourage existing ones to come along for the ride".

Mary Beth Comments Further on "The End"
Mary Beth Sobolewski, editor in chief of Mary Beth's Bean
Bag World Monthly, believes that Ty, Inc., will release a new line of products
as a successor to its soon-to-be-retired Beanie Babies. "It's unlikely that
Ty will simply roll over and watch company revenues drop when it no longer has
any Beanies in the pipeline, so we believe they are planning a new series in the
hope that lightning will strike twice," Sobolewski says. "If that's
true, it will be an exciting opportunity for new collectors to get in on the
ground floor when prices are still low." More...
The End's Diary - The End is Near...
We just found out what the important news was that our
friends at Ty had to tell us! We found out that when we all retire on December
31, there will be no new Beanies to replace us! Can you believe it! I just
can’t imagine the playroom without any Beanies in it! I asked our friends at
Ty what’s going to happen to all of our toys and games. They said that they
would donate them to the shelter. I guess that is a good thing. Oh my goodness!
I just realized something! I really am the last ever Info Beanie! Gee, that
makes me a little sad. I’m going to go and talk to the other Beanies and see
what they all think about this. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Good night!

Ebay Refuses Seattle Riot Items
E-Bay is refusing to allow bidding for tear gas canisters,
rubber bullets and other items from last week's violent demonstrations in

Seattle Police Department, and the auction house does NOT allow the sale of
stolen merchandise.
New Virus Spreading on the Web
A new breed of computer virus spreading through Internet
chat rooms this week could let its creator effectively control infected
computers remotely. The virus, W95.Babylonia, comes disguised as a Y2K

worrisome to computer security experts is the virus's ability to update itself
with potentially malicious instructions from Japan. "The virus writer
can write code to do anything he wants to," said Vince Gullotto, director
of Network Associates' anti-virus research team. "There's nothing else even
close to it." More...

New Y2K Virus Can Be Devestating
The W32/Mypics.worm comes in an e-mail without a
subject line and contains a message that reads "Here's some pictures for
you!" At first, the worm acts like Melissa, immediately sending itself to
as many as 50 listings in a user's Outlook address book. The mass-mailing will
not be triggered if the virus recipient doesn't use Outlook.
But the e-mail also contains an executable attachment, labeled Pics4You.exe,
which infects the user's PC with the worm if it is opened. Once opened, on Jan.
1, 2000, the worm also overwrites part of the hard drive of the infected PC. If
that PC is rebooted anytime after the New Year, the worm has the potential to
completely reformat the hard drive, causing a loss of data. The glitch will try
to disguise itself as a Y2K problem. More...

JDF - "Juvenile Diabetes Foundation" - Update

I would like to see greater national awareness of

close to six million undiagnosed victims, it is vitally important that we implement a

Oh my, an uncut sheet of 100 retired cards showed up on ebay!
The most interesting part of this is there is a breakdown of how many of each card are on
a sheet! According to this there are just 2 peanut royal blue cards on a sheet of a
hundred, so if 2/100 retired cards are peanut royal blue and odds of any retired card is
1/7 packs, then on average you would have to buy 350 packs (approx $700.00) to get one
Peanut royal blue card (of any color). I have calculated the odds based on the
number of each card on a sheet and list them below in the retired card section.
