Commander Scott Kelly, a 1987 graduate of the Maritime College, plans to carry with him a
Beanie Baby belonging to his daughter and the flag taken by another Maritime College

three of the telescope's six gyroscopes, which are critical for the telescope to meet its

BMW Auction Sets New Records
The power of the Internet auction and the allure of the BMW brand teamed Friday as the
German luxury automaker put the first of its new BMW X5 sports utility vehicles on the
block at eBay -- where the high bid surged to $500,000, or nine times the suggested retail
price. The X5 auction is the first time an automaker has made the initial sale of a
new model over the Internet. The combination appears to have been irresistible to
some bidders, who quickly pushed the price of the SUV to more than $66,000 in the first
hour of trading. By midafternoon, the top bid had jumped to $250,000, then doubled to
$500,000 by late Friday. The Auction price as of this post is $509,100. Click Here for

Marilyn Monroe's Dress Sells on Auction for over $1.2 Million
The dress that screen siren Marilyn Monroe wore to sing "Happy Birthday, Mr.
President" to President John F. Kennedy was sold for $1,267,500, smashing the record
for an item of clothing at auction. "We really got the bargain of the century,"
said Peter Siegel of New York's 'Gotta Have it Collectibles,' who made the winning bid for
the form-fitting, flesh-toned dress along with his partner, Bob Schagrin. "We were
prepared to go much higher," he said.

Ebay Outages Partly to Blame for Stock Plunge
EBay Inc. stock fell about 10 percent Wednesday, a day after the release of a quarterly
report that showed better than expected sales and earnings. Analysts pointed
to a fairly sharp drop in revenues per consumer. Brown said that gross merchandise sales
generated per average eBay registered user fell to $112 in the third quarter from $132 in
the second quarter. A decline was expected, but the drop was surprisingly large, partly
reflecting aggressive spending on staff and infrastructure to beef up its network after a
series of extended outages over the summer. More...

Halloween Detrones Pokemon: Lycos Top 50
Halloween dethrones Pokemon to claim the top spot on this week's
Lycos 50. Reaching #1 is no small accomplishment: Halloween is the first item to top
Pokemon since Hurricane Floyd in September. Pokemon has been #1 for 8 of the 10 weeks the
Lycos 50 has been in place. A bigger surprise than Halloween was the Encyclopedia
Britannica. The encyclopedia's decision to put its entire contents online for free sent
users scrambling to search, putting Britannica at a remarkable #5 on the Lycos 50. (Note
to the publishers: more people misspell "Britannica" than get it right.) If you
are surprised, so was Britannica: the sudden wave of hits crashed their servers almost
immediately. More...

Beanie Bandit Boom?
Since Aug. 31, when Ty Inc. announced that all of its Beanie Babies would be
"retired" at midnight Dec. 31, collectors everywhere have been stocking up on
the tiny stuffed animals whose value accrues over time. Internet scam artists
and other criminals have long been fans of the creatures, too -- but now law enforcement
officials and other authorities are starting to wonder whether this newfound urgency Ty
has created could spur more Beanie-related crime than usual. Several incidents have
been reported around the country within the past few weeks alone, authorities said. Police
in Plantation, Fla., said that the owner of Marie's Hallmark stopped a thief from fleeing
her store Sept. 24 with a plastic bag crammed with $80 worth of the stuffed animals.

Hasbro, Inc. introduced "I Choose You Pikachu," an electronic plush
version of the most popular Pokemon character of all, #25 Pikachu. This is the first in a
series of electronic plush Pokemon toys to be released by Hasbro, Nintendo's worldwide

Pikachu," the more excited and talkative it gets. Squeeze its hand and Pikachu's
mouth wiggles while saying its name (at first, "Pi," then "Pi-ka,"
then "Pikachu!"). Pikachu also shows its affection back to the child with ears
that wiggle and electronic cheeks that glow bright red. "I Choose You Pikachu"
even gives its owner a spoken reminder when it's been left alone for a few minutes.

Staged at the Rosemont Convention Center on Saturday, Oct. 9th and Sunday Oct. 10th from
12 noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, the convention
featured more than 150 exhibits displaying retired, current, and new Beanie releases.
A special exhibit of 24 of the rarest Ty Beanie Babies(TM) was also displayed at the
convention. Among the many other events at the convention there was a Pokemon Pavilion
featuring the popular Pokemon Trading Cards and Pokemon Seminars. Billionaire 1 and
2 beanie were both there as well as Britannia Buddies, and more. Ebay's booth was
disappointing - huge booth and just a laptop. Other booths had huge screen displays with
their websites online. Amazon.com booth had way more traffic than ebay. The
MetaExchange had a GREAT location and was constantly busy as well. Nice Display by
the MetaExchange too. Beanie Nation was there as well, but the MetaExchange was
drawing far more traffic from what I could tell. Watch for the MetaExchange to GROW
their traffic big time! Holybears Booth was excellent and drew a huge amount of
traffic as well! Good luck Holybears! Your bears are nothing like Ty's so I
can't see how they can win that one!

Beanies Possible Motive in Murder
Now this is ridiculous but read on....
Police are looking for a man they believe murdered a night watchman this week. Police
Chief Joe Jones says they've obtained warrants for the arrest of 29-year-old Jeffrey Allen
White. Jones says White allegedly shot 63-year-old Harry Simmons while he was making his
rounds at an Elkins lumber mill early Wednesday morning. Jones says they have two theories
on the murder, that White was angry over Simmons role in his firing, or secondly money
that White owed the victim for Beanie Babies.

FREE Internet Answering Machine
CallWave announced the first and only FREE Internet Answering Machine(SM), that makes it
possible to hear who's calling while you are surfing the Internet, chatting on
America-On-Line, visiting Sierra's Collectibles, or bidding on eBay! Internet
users no longer need to order, install or pay for a separate telephone line to make sure
that they don't miss important calls while online.
The Internet Answering Machine eliminates annoying busy signals for callers trying to
reach someone who is online. Instead of getting a busy signal, the caller can leave a
voice message which the online user hears instantly over the speakers on their computer.
The Internet Answering Machine occupies a small window on the user's computer screen while
they are online. It displays incoming calls, plays messages and saves them for later.

Mattel's Share Price Drops 30%
Mattel Inc. the world's 2nd largest toy maker behind Ty, Inc, warned investors
Monday that third-quarter profits will drop sharply due to a big loss at a software
business, prompting speculation that its chief executive's job may be in jeopardy.
Mattel's shares plunged almost 30 percent on news of the poor performance at
The Learning Company, the software maker acquired earlier this year to take Mattel beyond
Barbie dolls and Hot Wheels cars into the world of high-tech, interactive toys.

Auction Buyer Swindled Twice
Going, going - swindled! George Carlson won the highest bid for a set of cameras on
eBay. But all he got was a headache and a $700 hole in his wallet when the Houston
resident paid for the equipment but received nothing from the seller in Florida.
"He wouldn't reply to e-mails," said Carlson, who found other buyers who had
been burned by the same individual. "He never had the cameras."
Chastened, Carlson bought a camera via eBay again, but used I-Escrow to safeguard his
money until the merchandise arrived.
He got a great deal from a seller named "Kuchar" and the camera showed up - sent
from Amazon.com. Smelling a rat, Carlson called Amazon.com and found the equipment had
been bought via a credit card belonging to George Carlson, but the account numbers did not
match his own card.
