Pikachu Nintendo 64 To Be Released!
Nintendo Co Ltd said it will launch a new version of its Nintendo64 console which will feature the popular Pokemon character "Pikachu".
Nintendo's new product will hit Japanese stores on July 21 at 14,000 yen ($131.27), the same price as the existing model, and will be available in the United States and Europe by the end of the year.  It will feature Pikachu - one of the most popular of the company's Pokemon game characters - on the front of the 64-bit consoles. Pikachu's cheek will light up when the machine is switched on.   More...
Pokemon Pirate Arrested
A supermarket manager is under arrest on charges that he diverted large shipments of Pokemon trading cards worth more than $130,000 and resold them, police said. today.  The manager was arraigned yesterday on charges of theft, receiving stolen property and theft by deception, said Falls police Lt. Neil Harkins.  The charges against the manager emerged in April when store officials discovered unexplained shipments and disappearances of Pokemon trading cards.  Store records show that between Oct. 4, 1999, and Dec. 30, 1999, the store received shipments of Pokemon cards totaling $133,559.51, but only sold $852.85 in cards for the same time period, according to an arrest affidavit.  More...
Pokemon Heats Up!
Just when the Pokemon craze seemed to be slowing down, a new wave of products has hit the market with a force unlikely to be weakened any time soon. With the 1999 "Pokemon: The First Movie" grossing over $87 million in the U.S. and Canada, the successful releases of home video and DVD versions of the same feature film in 2000, new video games and card set launches - and a very strong marketing campaign supporting it all - the Pokemon phenomenon has reached a new level of popularity.
"Pokemon The Movie 2000," opens July 21 at theaters nationwide. Ash Ketchum, Pikachu and friends return to the big screen for their most exciting adventure yet. Will they shatter box-office records once again?

Pokemon Balls on "Most Wanted List"
Alongside the FBI's "Most Wanted" list of dangerous criminals, the corner post office will now display a poster of the country's most notorious products.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Tuesday it would put up recall notices to alert the public to hazardous products. About 33,000 post offices, where 7 million people go each day to mail letters and ship packages, will get the new posters. The first posters should be up later this week, officials said.

On Saturday, April 22, Books-A-Million and Bookland stores will be participating in an exclusive release of Team Rocket, the highly anticipated expansion to the Pokemon trading card game card set. Originally scheduled to be released on April 24th, Pokemon trainers will now have the opportunity to catch Team Rocket two days early at Books-A-Million.

Team Rocket's Fortune Cookie Scam
The hot new Pokemon trading card game cards that were "stolen" from the Wizards of the Coast warehouse in Seattle on Tuesday were spotted in San Francisco's Chinatown in the possession of none other than the members of the nasty no-gooders Team Rocket. After making two more stops across the country, Team Rocket will land at the Mall of America in Minneapolis, where they have challenged every Master Trainer in the United States to a gigantic showdown on April 22.

Today, Team Rocket's tour of trouble has taken in San Francisco's famous Chinatown. And what's worse, not only did they hang their team signs for everyone to see, but they even tampered with the town's considerable supply of fortune cookies!

Now every single cookie's fortune declares Team Rocket the best trainers in the world! And they're still daring anybody and everybody to a duel on April 22. Well, at least they're not chicken. When asked to comment on the antics of the mischievous members of Team Rocket, most Chinatown residents would say only that Team Rocket cost them a fortune in cookies and they're none too happy about it.  More...

Team Rocket Pokemon Cards - Due April 24
Having been captured by bad-guy duo Team Rocket, these Pokemon have missed out on the proper love and attention any good Pokemon trainer would have given them.

Lacking that care, these Pokemon have evolved into naughty, mischievous creatures that have now found their way into the Pokemon trading card game via the Team Rocket set.

With several new additions to the game, including the arrival of the popular dastardly duo Team Rocket and the first-ever holographic Energy card, the Team Rocket set will add a different dimension to the enormously popular Pokemon trading card game.

This highly anticipated expansion for the Pokemon trading card game introduces 32 brand-new game cards and additional cards from Base Set 2, including "dark," or mischievous, versions of 30 favorite Pokemon. Game cards will be released in two new preconstructed theme decks, "Trouble" and ``Devastation'' (manufacturer's suggested retail price, US $9.99 each), as well as in 11-card booster packs (MSRP, US $3.29), and will be available in retail stores across the United States and Canada.  More...

Grand Theft Pokemon Case Solved
Relieved sheriff's officials announced they had cracked a case of "grand theft Pokemon" tracking down 161 trading cards that had been confiscated, and then lost, by a local school.  The owner of the cards, 11-year-old Rudy Donithan-Treat, was awarded $1,500 by small claims court last week after a judge determined that the school bore responsibility for the lost cards.  "Rudy Treat was supposed to pick up the cards at the end of the school day from officials. But another student got there before him and identified himself as Rudy. ... The Pokemon trading cards were inadvertently handed to the impostor,'' said Investigator Andy Van Zelf.  More...

Pokemon Seizure Mystery Discovered
Italian scientists have figured out how an episode of the television cartoon Pokemon may have caused epileptic seizures in 685 Japanese children in 1997.  The problem was caused by an abnormal brain response in these children to flashing lights featured in the cartoon, signaling a brain disorder known as photosensitive epilepsy. Dr. Vittorio Porciatti of the Institute of Neurophysiology in Pisa and colleagues say that a mechanism in the brain that controls the reaction to visual information "is defective or absent in" people with photosensitive epilepsy.  More...

U.S. Government Sets Up War Room for Recalled Items
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is launching Operation S.O.S. - Safe Online Shopping - to find more recalled, illegal and potentially hazardous consumer products being sold on the World Wide Web. CPSC recalls include products sold in both traditional stores and online, but this new initiative concentrates on the growing number of products for sale in cyberspace.  CPSC has instituted a "War Room" where CPSC investigators will monitor the Internet for possibly dangerous and illegal consumer products.
Using computers and telephone lines that can't be traced back to the government, non-government credit cards and anonymous shipping addresses, these experts, posing as consumers, shop for items that could be dangerous to consumers.  Operation S.O.S. monitors retail sites and product-related news groups on the Internet.  More...

Pokemon Recall Largest in History!
Burger King's recall of 25 million Pokemon balls after a child reportedly suffocated is the largest toy recall in U.S. history, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday.  It was too early to tell how many of the balls - part of a promotion by the fast-food chain tied to the Pokemon craze sweeping the United States - had been returned since Burger King initiated the voluntary recall two days ago.  More...

How to Spot a Fake Pokemon Card
Here are some tips on how to spot a fake Pokemon card.
Double Vision. If the image is dull in color or the print on the card is hard to read - usually a product of shoddy reproduction - experts say it's probably a fake. Nintendo officials also say you can see dots when you look closely at the printed images on fake cards. Sometimes the colors of the characters are wrong.
Look for Logo. Some fake cards do not carry the Nintendo trademark logo or "seal of quality" found on official Pokemon cards. Copyright information is also printed somewhere on the package.
Flimsiness. Compare the thickness of the card to other Pokemon cards. Counterfeit cards are often printed on cheaper, thinner paper stock that bends or "crinkles."

Burger King Refused to Recall Toys at First!
The Consumer Product Safety Commission criticized Burger King's actions on the recall, saying it urged the company to issue a recall or at least suspend the promotion after it learned of the girl's death on Dec. 15, four days after she died.  "They refused. They only agreed to a recall after the second incident," Rader said. "They were extremely uncooperative and they had to be pushed along."  More...

Burger King Recalls Pokemon Balls
Burger King Corporation is voluntarily recalling more than 25 million Pokemon balls included with Burger King kids meals. The balls may pose a suffocation hazard to children under three years of age. Pokemon balls are the ball-shaped plastic containers that hold Pokemon toys in Burger King kids meals. Either half of the Pokemon ball can become stuck on a child's face, covering the nose and mouth and may cause suffocation of a child under three years of age.
A 13-month-old girl reportedly suffocated when one-half of a Pokemon ball covered her nose and mouth. An 18-month-old girl reportedly also had a ball-half stuck over her face, causing her distress. However, the girl's father (on the second attempt) pulled the ball-half from her face.
